Description
The Wyvern is a dragon-like creature with two legs (not four), bat wings, and a long tail tipped with a venomous barb. It lacks the breath weapon of true dragons but is no less deadly for it.
Special Abilities
Poisonous Sting: The Wyvern's tail sting carries deadly poison. A creature struck by the tail must save vs. poison or die. The Wyvern uses its tail sting approximately 2/3 of the time in combat.
Tail Reach: The Wyvern's tail is flexible enough to strike forward over its back, allowing it to sting a target that is also being bitten. Both attacks may target the same or different creatures.
Flight: The Wyvern is an exceptional flier and often attacks from the air, using its tail while flying past.
Tactics / Encounter / Notes
Wyverns dive on prey from altitude, biting and stinging in the same attack. They have no breath weapon and are not as intelligent as true dragons. They defend their lair aggressively.
60% chance the encounter is at their lair.
Treasure
Wyvern lairs contain Type E treasure.
