Armor & Shields
Prices are in silver pieces (sp). Each armor's price is cumulative — it includes the cost of all lighter armors beneath it. Weights are in stones (st), 1 st = ~14 lbs.
AC uses the descending system — no armor is AC 9, lower is better.
Armor
| Armor | Price | AC | Wt (st) |
|---|---|---|---|
| No Armor | — | 9 | — |
| Padded/Leather | 15 sp | 7 | 1 |
| Chain | 45 sp | 5 | 2 |
| Plate | 95 sp | 3 | 3⅔ |
Shields
Shields reduce AC by the amount shown. The first value is vs. melee; the second is vs. missile fire.
| Shield | Price | Wt (st) | AC vs. Melee / Missile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buckler | 5 sp | — | −1 / — |
| Shield | 10 sp | ⅓ | −1 / −1 |
| Tower Shield | 15 sp | 1 | −1 / −3 |
Notes
Padded/Leather: formed thick padding or boiled leather. The baseline protection for most adventurers.
Chain: mesh of interlocking metal rings worn over a padded foundation. The standard armor of fighters. Its price includes padding beneath.
Plate: shaped metal plates covering the body, with chain at the joints. Its price includes chain and padding beneath.
Buckler is a small, fist-held shield used to deflect blows. Offers no protection against missile fire.
Tower Shield is an oversized shield covering most of the body. Provides significant missile protection but is cumbersome in tight spaces.
