Description
Sea Monsters are the great leviathans of the deep — creatures so vast and terrible that their precise nature is left to the Referee. They begin in scale at the size of the Purple Worm and grow larger from there. They haunt open ocean, deep lakes, and unmapped seas.
Special Abilities
Enormous Size: Sea Monsters are at minimum as large as a Purple Worm. The largest are truly titanic.
Swallow Whole: As the Purple Worm, a Sea Monster of sufficient size may swallow creatures whole.
Aquatic: Sea Monsters are at home in water and suffer no penalties therein. They may be clumsy or helpless out of water, depending on their form.
Referee's Form: The exact shape of a Sea Monster — whether serpent, kraken, whale-like leviathan, or something stranger — is determined by the Referee.
Tactics / Encounter / Notes
Sea Monsters are encountered in open water, far from shore, or in the deepest lakes. They attack ships as readily as swimmers. A typical Sea Monster attack on a sailing vessel may involve capsizing, splintering the hull, or simply dragging the ship underwater. Fleeing is nearly always the correct response.
Treasure
Sea Monster lairs are on the seafloor or in underwater caves. They contain no set treasure type — the Referee determines what lies at the bottom of the deep.
