Description
The Manticore has the face of a man (often bearded), the body of a great lion, the wings of a dragon, and a tail studded with iron spikes. It is cruel and intelligent, and takes pleasure in hunting humans.
Special Abilities
Tail Spikes: The Manticore can fire up to 6 spikes per round from its tail. Each spike can target a different creature within 180 ft (crossbow-like accuracy). Each spike deals 1d6 damage.
Flight: The Manticore can fly at 180 ft movement, allowing it to attack from range and then close for melee.
Intelligence: The Manticore is cunning and may parley, issue ultimatums, or make cruel bargains before attacking.
Tactics / Encounter / Notes
The Manticore prefers to pepper enemies with tail spikes from the air, then land to finish off survivors with claws and bite. A Manticore with fresh spike growth is extremely dangerous at range.
25% chance the encounter is at their lair.
Treasure
Manticore lairs contain Type D treasure — the remains of its many victims.
