Description
Mummies are undead guardians bound to protect ancient tombs and treasuries. They are wrapped in linen bandages stained with preserving oils and reek of spices. Their gaze fills the living with supernatural dread.
Special Abilities
Rotting Disease: The touch of a Mummy inflicts a rotting curse. Wounds from a Mummy heal at one-tenth the normal rate. A Cure Disease spell cast within 1 hour of being struck halves this penalty.
Weapon Immunity: Only magical weapons can harm a Mummy. Even then, magic weapons strike at only half their bonus (a +2 sword strikes as +1). Non-magical weapons pass through harmlessly.
Vulnerability to Fire: Mummies take normal damage from fire-based attacks, which also bypass their weapon immunity.
Turn Undead: A Cleric may attempt to turn Mummies normally, though with difficulty.
Tactics / Encounter / Notes
Mummies are slow but nearly indestructible with normal arms. They guard specific locations and will pursue intruders relentlessly within the bounds of their charge. Highly flammable — torches and oil flasks are effective weapons.
30% chance the encounter is at their lair (tomb).
Treasure
Mummy tombs contain Type D treasure — the burial goods of the honored dead.
